My name is Elaine Way and I am a Solution-Focused Brief Therapist, Clinical Hypnotherapist, Motivational Speaker, Science Communicator and Anxiety Expert on a mission to help people create positive change. I am passionate about keeping neuroscience and our understanding of the brain central to the process of self-improvement because let's face it - we weren't given an instruction manual for the brain at birth. While the bulk of my work is with private clients at the Studio, I am a passionate advocate for mental wellbeing and speak regularly at events, workshops, schools and colleges.
Having suffered from anxiety at various points of my life, and blessed with a love of science, I became passionate about gaining a proper understanding of what was happening, why it was happening and how we could take back control. During my life I worked in professional careers that while on the surface appeared to be different, were linked by a common theme - I loved helping people to enjoy life. As a busy clinical therapist I now have the absolute pleasure of doing this every day.
I became fascinated by Hypnotherapy after it worked tremendously for my own fear of flying, childbirth and - as one of the prerequisites of my then job as a professional opera singer - standing up to perform to large audiences. This began my own investigations into the brain, our perception and how we can help ourselves overcome issues. I spent a great deal of time researching all the many different types of therapies available, also studying Psychology with the OU to fill in whatever time was left over. Later my research lead me to train in Clinical Hypnotherapy at a nationally recognised Centre of Excellence. I also trained with BRIEF, the centre of Solution Focused Therapy and Practise in the UK today.
Discovering Solution Focused Brief Therapy was a revelation. It made so much sense. It allows a really respectful and and professionally caring relationship between therapist and clients, adopting a hopeful view of human life - helping people to create change by finding solutions and strengths. It didn't require people to relive events from the past and demonstrated that the best change is created by focusing on the future and how we want it to be. In a world where therapy can be complicated and open-ended, it keeps things simple, positive and effective.
The rest, as they say, is history. I work with people from all walks of life, helping them to understand and reduce their anxiety, insomnia and low mood, and have also been privileged, in addition to my private practice, to be invited to speak at conferences, schools, hospices and various workshops around the UK, communicating the workings of the brain (particularly the teenage brain!), sleep, anxiety and other related subjects.
I am always so encouraged and delighted to see how quickly clients experience positive changes through solution focused therapy and I greatly enjoy assisting people on their way to achieving their goals - often finding strength and confidence they weren't even aware they had.
I work from a number of locations in Surrey and London, including my practice room in Lower Bourne, Farnham, Surrey.
